1982-1989

Netta Ewing founded the Guild in 1982 after designing the vestments for the Papal Visit of John Paul II  in the same year. The rest of the decade saw the creation of the following works:

  • Rosary altar frontal, the Resurrection pulpit fall, the Crown of Thorns pulpit fall, chasuble and priest’s seat cushion, the Alpha and Omega wedding kneelers, the Four Evangelists kneelers, the Sacred Heart Fall and the Covenant of Noah frontal for the Lady Altar, designed for St Albert’s, Pollokshields.
  • The Chinese version of the Papal Visit chasuble for Fr Donald Anderson, a Divine Word missionary priest in Taiwan.
  • Our Lady’s vestment for Fr Marcel, a Holy Ghost father in France 1985.
  • The Communion Table fall for Gourock Old parish Church of Scotland.
  • The Schoenstatt stole for Fr Michael Savage.
  • Three mitres for Bishop Mario Conti of Aberdeen – the Aberdeen mitre, the Coptic mitre and the mitre for the Nuclear Age.
  • The St Mungo orphrey and mitre, designed for Archbishop Thomas Winning, 1989. Archbishop Winning agreed to become Patron of the Guild in the same year.
  • The Jordanhill College armorial bearings for the visit of Princess Anne.

Exhibitions were held in 1984 at the annual Liturgy Conference, the Curial Offices of the Archdiocese of Glasgow and the Museum of Religious Life & Art.

In 1989 Netta ran classes for the Guild in embroidery techniques.
